Height x width: 1 to 2 feet tall and wide
Growth habit: Rounded form at maturity
Foliage: Alternate leaves 1-5 inches long. Usually green, although some cultivars have purple or variegated foliage
Flowers: Small white flowers that produce green fruits that ripen into black, yellow, red, cream or purple. Fruits are 1” to several inches long. These vary in shape from oblong to long, narrow, and curved.
Culture: Full sun to part shade and well-drained soils
Pests and problems: Whiteflies, aphids, spider mites, fungal leaf spots, bacterial leaf spots, various viral diseases
Uses: Grown for its decorative fruits as a bedding plant or in a container. Usually produce fruit from midsummer until frost, but flowering and fruit set may also be forced in early winter for holiday sales or in spring for bedding plant sales. The fruit is often hot, sometimes dangerously so. However, some cultivars such as the 2002 All-America Selections winner Chilly Chili have been bred to have mild fruit.
