Perovskia atriplicifolia
Family: LAMIACEAE
Genus: Perovskia
species: atriplicifolia
Origin:
Size: 0 (min) to 0 (max)
Size Description:
Notes:
Growth habit: Upright, shrubby
Foliage: Opposite, dissected, 1 to 2.5 inches long, gray-white underneath. Stems are also gray-white. Both have a strong smell when bruised
Flowers: Small lavender-blue tubular flowers whorled around an interrupted spire that extends above the foliage. Blooms from summer through autumn.
Culture: Full sun and well-drained soil. The plant is woody at the base—cut back to near the ground in spring to promote new herbaceous growth.
Pests and problems: Does not tolerate wet soil in winter. Tends to look somewhat straggly or weedy in regions with high summer heat and humidity, and leans toward the light which causes it to flop over. Spreads by offshoots and can outgrow its space.
Uses: Border
Propagation: Cuttings, seed
Cultivars: ‘Blue Spire’ is an upright form with deeply lobed leaves, below.
